Why the calls and texts are not free
Every text and every phone call costs money to send, each time. Email does not. That is the whole line between the two, and it is worth saying plainly: an email can sit unread all day, and a ringing phone cannot. If what you need is somebody actually woken up, that is the part that is paid for.
Can I use the free version forever?
Yes. It does not expire, it does not nag, and nothing is charged. Plenty of people use it that way.
